Anniversary, a poem by Martin Espinal

Just woke up from a deep slumber

found out it’s now September, man

I better remember not to forget the 24th,

As that is the day I met my Sharon, she

with peach fuzz skin and pink lips.

Passionately, intensely and argumentative;

could be adjectives but no they are the feelings

she can evoke in me but I love  Sharon just as she is.

In all relationships there will be times when all is

not bliss. But that’s the beauty of a kiss, hugs and

a man willing to stand and say “I may have made

a big mistake today;” moving forward in every way

Well, that’s where we stand, one year to the day

and may I humbly state, “Thank you Sharon,

from my heart to yours, have a great day.”
